Since I was turned on to the IA about a year ago, my laptop has become my go to source for music. There was a noticeable decline in sound quality though compared to cd's.

I recently purchased a Schiit Audio Modi USB dac and it is marvelous. Powered off the usb port on the laptop it is simplicity in itself. It is also asynchronous which completely eliminates jitter.

Highly, highly recommended. http://schiit.com/products/modi

When I first read the post I paid no attention to the all-time poorly named company because everything time warp had to say after Schiit might as well have been written in Sanskrit. Thanks for a good laugh BVD.What a slogan.

If you are using the headphone out on your computer to your stereo you are missing a big chunk of great sound. And being a true deadhead means you care about sound quality. A USB DAC plugs into the usb port on your computer and grabs the digital stream then converting it into analog and on to your headphones or amp. It makes a huge difference in sound quality. I regret not getting one sooner.

After a good bit of research I settled on the Schiit Modi mentioned above and it blew me away......
